The Evermed transformer is one of the most unusual wheelchairs made, but one that offers some great features with only minor problems.

The best feature of the chair is it's ability to go from a lightweight wheelchair to a transport chair in just seconds without tools or hassles. Simply push the button on the quick release axles and pull the wheel off to remove them, you can leave the axles in the wheel for safe keeping. The small 8 x 1" wheels are already in place and the wheel locks work on both sets of wheels. No adjustments needed. To reinstall the larger 20" wheels, just push the quick release axles back into the sockets in the frame.

With the large wheels in the place the chair weighs only 34 pounds, 19 pounds with them removed. I would like to see the large wheels replaced with 24" for easier self propelling, but this may not be possible.

Another good feature is the adjustable height front caster and adjustable angle caster housing. This allows you to raise the front of the chair providing a little seat angle to help keep people who slide forward in the seat.

The arms are Desk length flip-back style and have a very easy to use latch. Optional height adjustable arms in Full or Desk length are available.

The back is adjustable height, but does not fold down like many transport chairs.

Footrest are the industry standard Invacare style for good strength.

The only problems we have encountered or heard about is the quick release axles have had a few problems over the years. Evermed has been great about replacing any that have gone out under warranty. If after the warranty period I would suggest buying a better axle just to avoid future problems.

Summary, I really like this chair and it's features. It is both a lightweight chair for everyday use and a transport chair for trips to the mall or traveling. The wife says it is over priced compared to  some others on the market, but I feel the features more than make up for the price difference.

PROS

Pretty good reliability.
Parts are readily available.
Converts very easily.
Adjustable caster height and angle.
Lightweight in both configurations.

CONS

Needs better quick release axles.
Wife says it cost a little to much.
